You are not alone.  More than 30 million women today suffer with menopause.  Depression, anxiety, mood swings, night sweats, hot flashes, weight gain, insomnia, decreased libido, headaches…you know the symptoms well, but do you know that you can find relief through Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)?

“Balancing your hormones is a quality of life issue,” Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeons Drs. Elliott and Summer Black said.  “Living with unbalanced hormones can take its toll on your heath.”  Like so many other board-certified practitioners across the country, Dr. Black’s office offers BHRT for men and women suffering with hormonal imbalances.

“We see quite a few men.  Frequently, one partner receives so much improvement from their treatment that the other will come in too,” Dr. Summer Black said.  According to a 2016 report in “Therapeutic Advances in Urology,” testosterone levels in men begin to decline as much as two-percent annually at 30 years of age.

What is BHRT and why does it work?

Hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone, govern many systems inside our body—systems like metabolism, hunger, emotions, respiration, reproduction and growth. When levels decrease, these functions short-circuit and cause hot flashes, insomnia, mood swings, depression, weight gain and all sorts of issues.  Hormone therapy corrects the imbalance by restocking your depleted hormone supplies.

Drs. Black administer bioidentical hormones, specifically bioTE®, because they are derived from plants and other natural sources and identically mimic our own hormone’s molecular structure.

“It’s kind of a like a lock and key mechanism,” said Dr. Sarah Haydel, a board-certified dermatology specialist in Houma, Louisiana who has treated over 1,000 patients with BHRT.  “You can have a key that goes into a door that fits, but when you turn it, it doesn’t unlock the door.  So bioidentical not only is the key that fits the lock but it turns it perfectly and our body recognizes that.  That’s why there’s less side effects when you do the bioidentical way versus the synthetic.”

Both doctors rely on a simple blood test when determining the proper dosage specific to your body’s needs.  When ready, the bioTE® pellets are injected under the skin where they slowly release hormones over the following several weeks.

“I like it because it’s a very individualized approach.  It’s not a ‘one size fits all.’  With bioTE®, it’s very regulated.  The lab that makes these individually is closely monitored. So they’re potent and pure and you know what you’re getting,”
Dr. Haydel said.

“Patients tend to be very happy and they see improvements in their symptoms,” Dr. Summer Black said.
