DR. DEIRDRE MARSHALL HELPS PEOPLE ACHIEVE RADIANT WELL-BEING

Looking good and feeling good go hand in hand. Both are important to overall personal wellness, which encompasses the mind, body and soul. Plastic surgeon Deirdre Marshall, M.D., of Marshall Cosmétique Center, reminds us that wellness is an ongoing process that is achieved through deliberate, specific efforts, especially as we age. “Many people are taking better care of their bodies, so they feel healthier and younger,” she said. “But quite often, the mirror does not reflect how they feel on the inside. Wanting to look as good as you feel is not about vanity, it’s about well-being.”

When their children leave for college, many women finally take a moment to take care of themselves. Other life changes, such as a divorce, career change or return to work also motivate women to make self-improvements. Dr. Marshall says these women often are surprised at the overwhelming support they receive from their family when they take steps to enhance their appearance. “Many patients have said that their children take pride in the fact that their mom looks young, confident and healthy,” she said.

Dr. Marshall performs a full scope of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery procedures that help women — and men — combat and reverse signs of aging. Facial rejuvenation, which aims to restore a youthful appearance to the face by addressing such concerns as wrinkles, volume loss and eye bags, can be achieved through non-surgical or surgical procedures.

Some of the common facial rejuvenation procedures Dr. Marshall performs are:

  • Injectables, such as Botox and facial fillers
  • Facial peels and skincare
  • Facelift
  • Neck lift
  • Blepharoplasty (eyelid lift)
  • Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping)
  • Chin augmentation
  • Otoplasty (Ear reshaping)
  • Latisse (eyelash serum)

Dr. Marshall also is highly trained and experienced in performing the following body rejuvenation procedures, which help individuals restore their body image:

  • Breast augmentation, lift and reduction
  • Breast reconstruction post-mastectomy
  • Abdominal reconstruction
  • Tummy tuck
  • Liposuction
  • Labiaplasty (vaginal rejuvenation)
  • Gynecomastia (treatment (male breast reduction)
  • Hand surgery
  • Microsurgery
  • Soft tissue tightening
  • Spider vein treatment
  • Hyperhidrosis treatment (excessive sweating)IV nutritional therapy

Facial care, treatments for spider veins and hyperhidrosis and IV nutritional therapy are among the newer therapies offered in the Center’s comfortable, inviting spa. “We introduced these services to meet the requests of our patients who have come to know us and trust us and want to get full-body treatments under one roof,” Dr. Marshall explained.

As Dr. Marshall helps patients look great on the outside, she reminds them to take care of their bodies from within. Building a strong patient-physician relationship is important, she says, so she often talks to her clients about eating healthy, getting enough sleep and exercising. She also practices what she preaches. Dr. Marshall is an avid runner and cyclist and participates in various races, including triathlons. She is a member and sponsor of two women’s cycling groups – Pink Sirens Sports and Dońa Pan Riders, both of which promote safe competitive cycling for women and ride to support noteworthy causes such as breast cancer awareness and research. She also supports the efforts of Team Hammerheads – South Florida Triathletes, which offers camaraderie to triathletes of all levels.

As an athlete, Dr. Marshall knows the special challenges facing this group when it comes to anti-aging. “Athletes often are in the sun, which ages the skin, and they are lean, which reflects in the face. Since they have little body fat, they have little facial fat,” she explained. “Botox and facial fillers can go a long way to give these women a more youthful appearance that better matches their toned bodies.”

Many patients who visit Marshall Cosmétique Center choose to start their anti-aging process with minimally invasive procedures that have little or no downtime. Dr. Marshall says that when they start this regimen early and maintain their results, they may never feel the need for surgical procedures. On the other hand, when some patients see positive results and gain trust and confidence in her skills, they feel comfortable choosing a surgical option that can provide more dramatic results.

When it comes to facial or full-body rejuvenation procedures, training and experience matter. Dr. Marshall has more than 25 years of experience and is regarded as one of Florida’s leading plastic surgeons. She graduated from Yale University and earned her medical degree at the Stanford School of Medicine in California. She completed an internship and residency in general surgery and plastic and reconstructive surgery at Stanford. Her post-doctoral training also includes two fellowships — one in hand and microsurgery in Paris and the other in cosmetic surgery in Miami Beach.

Dr. Marshall currently is serving as the first female president of the Miami Society of Plastic Surgeons, which is comprised of board-certified plastic surgeons who collaborate to share best practices and advance patient care and safety. She was named to South Florida’s “Super Doctor’s” list in 2009 and 2017 and has received numerous academic awards and honors, including the Katherine M. McCormick Foundation Award for Women in Medicine and the Stanford University School of Medicine Research Honors Award.

Because Dr. Marshall has special expertise in breast reconstruction post-mastectomy, many oncologists refer their patients to her for breast reconstruction after breast cancer surgery. She also is renowned for her work in pediatric cranial, facial and hand surgery and has completed surgical missions to Vietnam and various locations in Central and South America to provide treatment for children in poverty-stricken areas.

Whether performing a breast reconstruction post-mastectomy, a facelift or a pediatric otoplasty, “improving self-image and confidence is at the core of what I do,” said Dr. Marshall. “I am helping people achieve overall well-being, and that is extremely gratifying.”
