The Search for the BEST All-Natural Hamburger in Town.

Red Meat–a term used for the meat of mammals that has higher amounts of iron than chicken or fish. It is commonly ground and used in what we know world-wide as a nice juicy hamburger. Fresh, lean ground beef is rich in vitamins and minerals, especially iron and zinc. Therefore, moderate beef intake can be part of a healthy diet.

A 3.5-ounce lean ground beef patty with 10 percent fat is only 217 calories, 26 grams of protein and zero carbs and sugar. Beef does contain fat and can increase your caloric intake but, if you make sure only to consume beef that is 5 to 10 percent fat, you will take advantage of the highly nutritious aspects needed for the growth and maintenance of a healthy body.Red meat is one of the most complete dietary sources of protein because of its amino acid profile being almost identical to that of your own muscles. For this reason, eating meat may be of particular benefit after surgery and for recovering athletes. So there you go Drew Brees, EAT YOUR MEAT!

Today, we are focusing on restaurants who serve the freshest, all-natural, BEST burger. Have you ever had a craving for a fresh, homemade, juicy hamburger, only to find yourself in a restaurant (that promotes itself to have the best hamburgers in town) and when you ask the server if the hamburgers are homemade, you are told, “no, they come in frozen patties!?”  What is up with that?

Here’s the skinny on the burger.  Believe it or not, if prepared properly, hamburgers fall into several diet categories.  A 4-ounce burger made of 95 percent lean ground beef is only 3 points on Weight Watchers.  Add a light bun for 2.5 more points, Weight Watchers cheese adds 1.5 points and the rest is free.  Onions, lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms are all zero points.  It’s all in the way you prepare your burger and the first step is to make sure it is all-natural, 100 percent pure meat.

On my quest to find the best, all-natural hamburgers around, I have been visiting some local restaurants and pubs. The first one I want to nominate in my all-natural burger contest is KGee’s on Florida in Mandeville.  Kathy Williams runs a tight ship when it comes to quality.  Don’t be surprised if Kathy approaches your table with fresh onion rings because she didn’t like the way the others looked.  When I remarked to Kathy about her very tasty hamburger, she let me in on her secret that is actually not a secret.  She gets fresh ground beef every day from Saia’s meat market across the street.  When I mean fresh, you can’t get any fresher than that!  When I started thinking about it, I decided that there really aren’t very many places that serve fresh, all-natural hamburger patties daily.  I could be wrong, which is why I’m asking our readers for help.  The top three places that I already know about have been nominated, and we need more contestants!

Next nominee, La Lou on Girod Street in Mandeville has a daily gourmet burger prepared anyway you want.  My grandson Conner, who only eats burgers most of the time, has nominated La Lou as one of the best burgers he’s ever eaten.  His favorite is the August Burger.

Have you tried The Shack?  The Shack burger is made of all-natural ground beef and topped with a delicious tomato onion jam and dressed anyway you like it.  Christine Clouatre says they add nothing to their beef except salt and pepper and non-MSG house seasoning.

From Slidell to Hammond, Northshore to the Southshore, we are looking for the BEST all-natural hamburgers.
